Global wheat head segmentation dataset

The Head Segmentation (GWHS) dataset aims at an instance segmentation of spikelets, including their damage by biotic and abiotic stresses

The dataset targets a cascade of several objectives:

  • Detect fully visible spikes in a canopy
  • Segment and count spikelets per spike
  • Detect and quantify diseases (such as fusarium head blight)
  • Quantify effects of abiotic stress (such as heat, frost, or shading)

To achieve this we aim to label a dataset enabling to:

  1. detect fully visible spike including their orientation to the camera
  2. segmentation of ALL spikelets within a head in order to count them and determine their size
  3. quantify damage related to change in size, color and shape of the spikelets

The targeted image are:

Red-green-blue (RGB) images
At least 0.4 mm/pixel ground sampling distance (40 pixels per spike width)
) 35° to 90° off nadir viewing angle
